Cheshire's Non-Designated Parks and GardensOTHER LOCALLY SIGNIFICANT PARKS AND GARDENS IN CHESHIRE
Trust volunteers have focused on the research and recording of non designated parks and gardens of which there are over 400 in Cheshire. Some of these sites have the potential to be of national significance but many will be local heritage assets. Completed reports are submitted to owners, the relevant local authority, Cheshire Archives and Local Studies who make the information available in local libraries, and Cheshire Historic Environment Record (CHER). Reports are also available from the Trust on request. Please contact us if you have queries regarding a potentially historic park and garden. Note: Reports have been completed for those sites in capital letters. * indicates a Short Draft report. | Bruntwood ParkBruntwood Hall's history is rich and diverse. Built in 1861 as the home of Stuff Merchant, John Douglas, it was named Bruntwood after his wife's Scottish roots. Bruntwood Hall became the Cheadle and Gatley UDC Town Hall from the outbreak of war in 1944. The council then moved to Abney Hall, in 1959. The Hall was also a great equestrian stud, as well as home to a film company. The park has long been open to the public and has many paths and open areas as well as beautiful mature trees. In all there are 120 acres of mature parkland. It includes a children's play area and a bike/BMX park. The Hall is now a hotel and the original Victorian conservatory had been converted to a restaurant. Location: Bruntwood Lane, Cheadle, Stockport SK8 1HX Park Friends Group |
